The sleeve contains at least one inspection hole (19). The essentially tubular coupling body (2) has an insertion part (5) extending in an axial direction between an insertion end (8) of the body and a ledge (7) on the outside of the body. The insertion part is designed to be fitted inside the end of one of the pipes, whilst a fastener part (6) of the coupling body opposite the insertion part is designed to secure the body to the other pipe. A sleeve extends coaxial with the insertion part from the ledge and has an internal diameter greater than the external diameter of the insertion part, creating a space (15) in between for receiving an end section of the pipe. A flange (16) which can engage with the side (7b) of the ledge facing away from the insertion part is provided on one end of the sleeve.
