<p>PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) trunk interface in an ATM exchange system are provided, which process different kinds of ATM cells separately according to a type of AAL(ATM Adaptation Layer). CONSTITUTION: The ATM trunk interface apparatus comprises a cell distribution switch part(130), AAL processing parts(140-170) and a control part(180). The cell distribution switch part separates AAL types as to ATM cells from an ATM physical layer processing part(110) or as to bidirectional ATM cells passing through an ATM trunk interface and switches them to their corresponding destination. The AAL processing parts perform a corresponding AAL function as to the ATM cell of an AAL type corresponding to itself. The AAL function includes an ATM cell header analysis and conversion operation. The control part performs a control and management function as to the whole function of the ATM trunk interface apparatus, and performs an IP communication with other processors.</p> |
