PURPOSE: To provide a sealing material which has good holdability of fibers of feathers in contact with a movable body, prevents the pull off of the feathers and can prevent the leakage of fine powder and granular materials. CONSTITUTION: The sealing material for preventing the leakage of the fine powder and granular materials which is excellent in slipperiness and wear resistance and is mainly composed of a pile fabric consisting of pile yarn forming the sliding feathers and a ground fabric of a plain stitch structure supporting the pile yarn and in which the pile yarn of the feathers is high- strength polyethylene fibers of 0.1 to 6.0 dTex in single yarn fineness, ≧1.1 in oblateness of the section of the fibers and ≧22 cN/dTex in average tensile strength, 1.5 to 4 mm in the height of the feathers, 13,000 to 346,000 pieces/cm¬2 in the piloerection density of the pile yarn segments, and 0.02 to 0.2 cm¬2 in the sectional area of the pile yarn per 1 cm¬2 base cloth and which has a coating layer for preventing the pull off of the feathers on the backside of the ground cloth.
