PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect all mails containing a designated character string or pictographic character in a short time in a cellular phone. SOLUTION: This mail retrieval method for cellular phone comprises storing transmitted and received mails in a mail storage area 2 in the cellular phone having the function of transmitting and receiving mails; retrieving the mails stored in the mail storage area 2 by the character color of a specified character string or pictographic character contained in the mails through a mail retrieval block 1; displaying one line containing the specified character string or pictographic character in each detected mail on the screen of an indicator 3; and displaying, when selecting any one line from the displayed lines, the whole text of the mail containing this line.
