PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal display device of an IPS system which is wide in a visual field angle, is bright and is highly reliable by using low- temperature polysilicon TFTs. CONSTITUTION: Opaque pixel electrodes are formed across insulating films in the lower parts of transparent pixel electrodes of comb tooth electrodes and further common electrodes arranged in the lower parts thereof and holding capacitors are formed between the common electrodes and the opaque metallic electrodes. In quadrisecting a pixel, the spacing between the pixel electrode and the common electrode is made into a nonequal pitch size and nonequal electrode width within one pixel, by which the stably operating and bright IPS liquid crystal display device can be obtained.
