The stator conductors (20) have two branches (20a, 20b) each placed in different stator slots (L,L'). The conductor is bent into a 'U'-shape with the two branches forming the sides of the 'U'-shape and the curved part forming the end windings. Each stator slot contains four windings. The radius of curvature of the 'U'-shape for different windings is substantially the same.
