PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively use a FAX image in a network FAX communicable with a portable terminal by allowing the transmission of an image of an size adaptable to the small screen of a transmitting designation in an entirely visible image state. SOLUTION: In the transmission of the FAX image, the FAX checks e-mail transmission. Since it can be estimated that the transmitting destination is the portable terminal for e-mail, it is determined whether the address terminal specified by the mail address requires a change of image size or a compression processing in reference to the image size of recording format and the designation of field of compression ratio parameter in the registration information of Fig. 8, and the size change or image data compression is carried out according to the result.
