The system is for designing, administering and distribution of different types of data characteristics, such as family and forenames, addresses, post codes, places of residence, telephone numbers, fax-numbers, dates of birth, financial status, motor vehicle details, and the like, referring to different entities, such as individuals or corporate persons, and comprises at least one computer forming part of a communication network. A control system is provided, to which is coupled an electronic data bank (10). Information characteristics are received in the data bank and classified and a list of access codes is maintained updated. Via the communication network, third parties (13) can make connection via the computer and after input of a correct access code can consult the data bank.
