PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for allowing a port itself connected to an FC-AL to detect its port fault during the initialization of a loop. SOLUTION: A fiber channel system having the port 123 connected to the FC-AL and constituted of a fiber channel controller 100 having an FC0 control circuit 104, an FC1 control circuit 105, a loop port state machine (LPSM) 106, an FC2 control circuit 107, and a DMA circuit, an MPU for controlling the controller 100 and a data buffer 111 is newly provided with an LPSM timer 101 for detecting that the LPSM of the port is in an initialization process state for a fixed period, a count start instruction means for starting the counting of the LPSM timer 101, a count stop instruction means for stopping the count of the LPSM timer 101, an LPSM time-out interruption generation means for generating interruption during the time-out of the LPSM timer 101, and a reset means for detecting the LPSM time-out interruption from the LPSM timer time-out interruption and resetting the controller 100 and the port 123.
