The invention concerns a method for digital recording of data, on a write-one read many (WORM) optical medium including a metal oxide sensitive layer of the oxidable spinel type. It consists in locally and successively heating zones of the sensitive layer under conditions promoting oxidation of the oxidable metal ions of the oxide. In the resulting recorded optical medium, the unrecorded zones, not modified by writing, are oxidable and undergo colour change after heat treatment in oxidizing atmosphere.
