PURPOSE: A method of manufacturing a catalytic converter is provided to reduce cracks caused due to the residual stress and thermal stress by eliminating the welding part between the outer cone and shell. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises the first step of forming an inlet part outer cone(17) and a cylindrical shell(12) formed integrally into a single unit by using a cylindrical material through the spinning process; the second step of inserting a pre-produced inlet part inner cone(16) into the inlet part outer cone through the open outlet of the shell; the third step of inserting an inner assembly including a catalyst(14) and a mat(15) into the shell through the open outlet of the shell; the fourth step of forming a stopper portion for catching a rear edge of the inlet part inner cone by compressing the diameter of the shell disposed in rear of the inlet part inner cone, in such a manner that the inlet part inner cone inserted in the inlet part outer cone is fixed; and the fifth step of welding an outlet part inner cone(18) and an outlet part outer cone(19) to the ends of open outlet of the shell, respectively.
