<p>A method for preparing a catalyst for use in the carbon monoxide shift reaction (a reaction wherein carbon monoxide and steam are reacted and converted to carbon dioxide and hydrogen) containing Pt as a primary active component, characterized in that use is made of a carrier comprising a metal oxide or composite metal oxide having a pore volume of 0.25 ml/g or more and a bulk density of 1 g/ml or less, and a Pt compound being free of a halogen and sulfur is used as the water-soluble precursor of Pt to be carried; and a catalyst prepared by the method. The catalyst can be activated with ease, is less susceptible to adverse effect by repeated stops and starts of operation or the incorporation of oxygen, and allows stable operation for a long period of time.</p> |
