The valve brake (50) incorporates a damping system (31) with throttles (35,35') for the oil which may be forced out via a leakage channel (46). There is an axial bore (37) with a stop valve (38) connected to radial bores (36). The piston (18) of the damper also acts as an actuator piston and oil is introduced through wide radial bores (201,202) in communication with control valves and a high-pressure oil supply.
