STEREOSTRUCTURE OF DNA RECOMBINATION REPAIR ENZYME AND UTILIZATION THEREOF

Crystals of Rad52 protein, which is a DNA recombination repair enzyme, are formed and the three-dimensional structure thereof is determined by X-ray crystal structure analysis with the use of the same. The three-dimensional structures of the Rad52 protein complexes thus obtained are usable in screening compounds binding to various variant enzymes and complexes of these enzymes. Variant Rad52 protein complexes and compounds capable of binding to the complexes so as to control the ability to repair DNA recombination, which are screened by the above method, are usable in diagnosis and treatment of diseases induced by DNA injuries and detection of the ability to repair DNA recombination of Rad52 in vivo. Moreover, these substances are usable to Rad52-targeting drug discovery, gene transfer to a specific site by homologous recombination, etc.
