The sealing of a tailgate on a tip-up load platform (1) of a motor vehicle has the edge between the load surface (2) and inclined surface meeting a circle arc which is formed by the inner lower edge of the tailgate during pivoting. The edge of the load platform and edge of the tailgate come into contact along their whole length in the end position. A protruding strip on the tailgate bears against the locating face of the load platform. The circle arc at the contact point with the edge of the platform forms a tangent (20) upon which lies the inclined surface or forms an acute angle (21) with it.
