PROCESS FOR PRODUCING FULLERENES

A process for efficiently producing high-purity fullerene C60 and fullerene C70 in high yield through a small number of steps in a short time. The process for fullerene production comprises subjecting to solid-liquid separation a suspension comprising a fullerene mixture and either an organic compound in which the solubility of fullerene C60 and that of fullerene C70 differs by at least 1.0 mg/ml and the ratio of the former to the latter is 3 or higher or powdery activated carbon. The filtrate and solid obtained are further treated by filtration through an activated-carbon layer to separately obtain fullerene C60 and fullerene C70.
