The assembly to generate a water curtain, to prevent the spread of escaping gas (G), e.g. from a production plant (P), has jets (4) along at least one edge of the area to be protected and linked to a water supply. In the event of leakage problems a vertical water spray (W) is generated. The jets are positioned at intervals so that the sprays from each jet overlap those of their neighbors from the ground (9) where they are located. The water sprays are in fine droplets, which collect the escaping gas and drive it upwards in an air/gas (F,G) mixture.
