The invention relates to an air-cooled electrical machine, in particular a generator for motor vehicles, containing a rotor (11) and a stator (21) comprising a stator plate assembly (22) and an armature winding (23). The aim of the invention is to obtain a cost-effective, space-saving additional liquid cooling device. This is achieved by the provision of a cooling jacket (26), which can be traversed by a coolant, comprises an inlet and an outlet and encloses the stator plate assembly (22). Said jacket has a heat exchange connection to the stator plate assembly (22) via the periphery of the latter.
