The safety crank consists of a brake housing (1) with an operating component fastened on a drive shaft and interacting with a drive element. The safety crank has a bi-functional locking roller (10) which provides a blocking action with load moments acting both in the clockwise and anti-clockwise directions. The crank (5) has two unlocking/driving dogs (6) of which in alternating sequence one contacts or moves the bi-functional locking roller and the other the operating component (3).
