The safety belt locking device (1) accommodates a tongue (2) with an aperture (14) near its end. The locking member (4) has a hooked end (15) engaging in this aperture and has a transverse pin (10) engaging in apertures in the sides of the lock housing (3). A locking spring (12) pulls the locking member toward a fixed pin (13). Further pins (8,9) on the locking member engage in bearings (6) in the housing. A magnetic field sensor (5) monitors the position of the nearest pin. A second spring (7) takes up play and prevents rattling of the locking device.
