The invention relates to the use of substances, which reversibly bind oxygen for transporting, transferring and for storing oxygen in order to provide oxygen during the growth of organs, organ-like structures, tissue cultures, cultures of human or animal cells or cultures of microorganisms. To this end, a number of possible properties of these substances can be used. The property of binding oxygen at a high partial pressure and releasing it once again into the surroundings at a low partial pressure whereby enabling a transport of oxygen is utilized. In addition, the ability to store oxygen and release it once again only in the event of very low partial pressures is utilized. The ability of some of these substances to transfer oxygen well in a variable manner is also utilized. Adding substances, which reversibly bind oxygen, to organ cultures, organoid cultures, tissue cultures, cell cultures or microorganism cultures makes it possible to achieve a sufficient provision of oxygen also in the areas in which, without these substances and under otherwise identical conditions, it would not be possible to provide oxygen for the survival or good functioning of cells or of microorganisms that require oxygen. |
