A small-scale waste water treatment reactor has a series of chambers with an effluent water inlet to the first and a clear water outlet from the last chamber. The assembly has compressed air-driven pumps, air supply lines driving liquid transfers, plus stop- and switch-valves linked to an external computer and compressor. The air compressor preferably. has a single supply line to the assembly. The assembly is a sequencing batch reactor in which all the internal air lines are connected to the single incoming compressed air line (11). The valves (6) are controlled mechanically, electrically or pneumatically. All compressed air driven units e.g. mammoth pump (7) or pneumatic selector valves (6) are connected to the single incoming air line (11). The valves (6) are located in the immediate vicinity of the respective user points. The unit (1) also incorporates a pressure reservoir.
