The mechanism for breaking up bulk material which does not flow well, e.g. paper for recycling, comprises a beam (10) which carries cross-bars (11) and is mounted on a swiveling arm (7). This moves up and down to break up material and feed it from a bunker floor (3) on to a conveyor (14).
