Device for displaying characters, especially for household appliances comprises individually controllable display elements (4-26) that form a 90o rotationally symmetric geometry (2) and a control unit (S) with which the display elements are combined to control the output of figures. An Independent claim is made for a method for displaying characters using 90o rotationally symmetric display element.
