The invention relates to a sensor for measuring the oxygen content of gases, in particular in the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine. Said sensor comprises a sensor element (13) that is exposed to the measuring gas and a protective member that encloses the sensor element (13) to protect it from the impact of condensed water droplets that are contained in the measuring gas. The aim of the invention is to obtain an improved action by means of a cost-reducing configuration of the protective member. To achieve this, the latter is configured as a fine pore screening well (20), with a negligible flow resistance and a negligible accumulation volume for condensed water, said well being is placed over the sensor element (13). The screening well (20) is preferably produced from a mesh grating (21) with a narrow porosity, or from perforated sheet metal, whose perforations are produced by laser treatment.
