The device has an image signal decoder (42) that processes an input image signal to generate control signal. A convergence control unit (53) performs convergence control based on a command received from a main microcomputer (41). The microcomputer provides normal display, after receiving a start signal from the decoder, and stops the control when a completion signal is received from the convergence controller. An Independent claim is also included for a convergence control method.
