PURPOSE: A torque converter of an automatic transmission for a vehicle is provided to prevent interference between a pump impeller and a turbine runner by mounting a guide vane in a stator without increase of length of the stator, and to improve torque conversion by increasing difference between rotational force of the turbine runner and the rotational force of the pump impeller with changing the outlet angle of the stator. CONSTITUTION: A pump impeller is driven by a crankshaft of an engine, and a turbine runner is installed in an input shaft of an automatic transmission. A guide vane(4) is mounted in the side of an airfoil stator(3) within the range of total length, and combined by a hinge pin(P). Oil is streamed from the turbine runner through the stator to the pump impeller by centrifugal force in rotating the engine. The guide vane changes the outlet angle of the stator according to pressure of oil, and improves torque conversion by increasing the difference between outlet rotation of the turbine runner and input rotation of the pump impeller.
