PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide a boron carbide-aluminum nitride sintered compact which has high density and high strength. SOLUTION: In the method of producing a boron carbide-aluminum nitride sintered compact, aluminum nitride powder of 0.5 to 30 mol% is added to boron carbide powder, and, after their mixing, the mixture is sintered in an atmosphere where aluminum nitride is not decomposed. The boron carbide-aluminum nitride sintered compact consists of 99.5 to 70 mol% boron carbide (B4 C) and 0.5 to 30 mol% aluminum nitride (AlN), and has a relative density of >=95%. The boron carbide-aluminum nitride sintered compact also has a four point bending strength of >=600 MP. |
