PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zigzag chain stitch sewing machine which can cool a needle shogging motor built into the arm section of a sewing machine head section. SOLUTION: The zigzag chain stitch sewing machine which vertically moves a needlebar supporting base 5 for supporting a needlebar 4 by means of a main motor 3 directly coupled onto an upper shaft 2 and alternately shogs the needlebar supporting base 5 in a direction orthogonal with a cloth feed direction by means of the needle shogging motor 6, which is built into the sewing machine head section 1 and is annexed with an origin position detecting means 26, is provided with a partition 9 between the main motor 3 and the needle shogging motor 6 and is provided with a fan 8 for cooling the needle shogging motor 6 at a thread winding drive wheel 7 fixed to the upper shaft for driving a bobbin thread bobbin winding device 29.
