PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soot removing system in which a great deal of soot in an exhaust gas is removed by using a soot removing device body at starting and rated operation of an internal combustion engine, and a method of operating soot removing system. SOLUTION: In the vertical type soot removing device body 16, the exhaust gas including the soot is introduced from an inlet pipe 11, is guided from an exhaust gas opening 11 by a guide vane 11b, and introduced into a first casing 12a. The exhaust gas introduced into the first casing 12a is made to flow in a rotating manner in an outer periphery of the inlet pipe 11 in the first casing in such a state that silica sand 15 stored in the first casing 12a is thrown up by a gas pressure, and a particle of the soot included in the exhaust gas is adhered to the silica sand 15 and collected. Accordingly, the soot in the exhaust gas is removed, and only a purified gas is filtered through a filter 13, to be discharged from a second casing 12b via an outlet pipe 14. |
