PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To nearly equalize the color display quality when transmission type display is performed and the color display quality when reflection type display is performed to each other, in a semitransmission reflection type color liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: A supporting layer 26 having a rugged surface is provided on the inner surface of a rear side substrate 23 and first and second color filter elements 27 and 29 are provided sandwiching a semitransmission reflection layer 28 on the both sides thereof on the supporting layer 26. When the display device is used as a transmission type, light from a backlight 38 is transmitted through the first and the second color filter elements 27 and 29 respectively once, twice in all, and when the display device is used as a reflection type, external light is reflected by the semitransmission reflection layer 28 to be transmitted through the display surface side color filter element 29 twice. Thereby, the color display quality when transmission type display is performed and the color display quality when reflection type display is performed can be nearly equalized to each other. |
