PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent icing of drainage water resulting from defrosting under much frosting on an outdoor heat exchanger during a heating operation of an air conditioner by an air-cooled heat pump. SOLUTION: A means determines whether defrosting duration was long or short. If it was short, upon the lapse of a defrosting prohibition time after a return to heating, defrosting is triggered as before according to a frosting detecting means. If it was long, defrosting is triggered just upon the lapse of the defrosting prohibition time. Under an excessive frosting degree, defrosting is triggered just upon the lapse of the defrosting prohibition time, so that the defrosting can be before frosting progresses and before icing progresses to improve heating performance and improve an equipment life.
