PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pulse tube type refrigerator using a Stirling cycle that can ensure refrigeration efficiency higher than a conventional level. SOLUTION: The pulse tube type refrigerator 10 comprises a compressor for repeatedly feeding and suctioning working gas, a cold storage unit 13 connected to the compressor via a radiation part 12 and internally filled with a cold storage medium, a pulse tube 15 connected to the cold storage unit via a cooling part 14, and a buffer tank 18 connected to the pulse tube via a radiation part 16 and an inertance tube 17. A ratio of the space volume of the pulse tube 15 to the space volume of the cold storage unit 13 is set at 0.75 to 1.5. In another mode, with the diameter of a circle of an area equal to an inside sectional area of the cold storage unit 13 taken as an inside diameter, a value of the division of the length of the cold storage unit 13 by the square of the inside diameter is set at 0.11 to 0.26.
