PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent deterioration of the image quality of printing images by generating an equivalent temperature rise for ink in non discharge ink chambers to a temperature rise for ink in discharge ink chambers at an ink discharge operation time and making the ink discharge performance nearly constant for all ink chambers set to an ink jet head. SOLUTION: In driving the ink jet head which images by selectively driving a plurality of ink chambers, non discharge ink chambers are also driven by a constant amount without discharging ink, whereby desired power consumption is generated. In this example of using 384 nozzles for generating 6000 ink droplets per second at most, a correction power of 0.56μJ is applied for every discharge cycle to non discharge ink chambers. The temperature rise is thus made constant irrespective of discharge and non discharge chambers. Temperatures of the plurality of ink chambers arranged in parallel in the ink jet head 11 are nearly uniformly raised regardless of printing contents.
