PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aromatic polyether which is more improved to reduce discoloring around 400 nm and 600 nm and is excellent in transparency. SOLUTION: The method for producing an aromatic polyether comprises reacting a compound selected from an aromatic compound having a plurality of halogen atoms, a polyhydric phenol, and a halophenol with a base, wherein hypophosphorous acid and ammonium phosphate are employed at 0.01% or more and 0.01% or more respectively on the base of the theoretical weight of the aromatic polyether to be obtained.
