PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyvinyl acetal resin by which aggregation and coalescence of resin particles can be prevented to produce the polyvinyl acetal resin without producing coarse particles and reactivity can be promoted by keeping the resin particles in a good deposited state. SOLUTION: This method for producing the polyvinyl acetal resin comprises reacting a polyvinyl alcohol with an aldehyde using an acidic catalyst. In the method, nitric acid is used as the acidic catalyst. Furthermore, the method comprises using the nitric acid as the acidic catalyst before depositing the polyvinyl acetal resin.
