PURPOSE: An engine torque control method of an automatic transmission is provided to prevent engine stall by disregarding torque down demand of a TCU(Transmission Control Unit) in case of the idle fuel amount to be less than the minimum fuel amount for starting in shifting N into D-range and accelerating suddenly simultaneously. CONSTITUTION: Information on state of a vehicle is detected by a TCU(S101), and torque control condition is decided to be satisfied with information detected at idling an engine(S102). An ECU(Electronic Control Unit) detects the fuel amount for keeping idle rpm according to the torque-down demand signal from the TCU, and compares the detected fuel amount with the minimum fuel amount for starting(S103,S104). The current fuel amount is kept by disregarding the torque-down demand, and engine torque is controlled according to travel demand(S105,S106). The torque-down fuel amount is calculated through algorithm if the current fuel amount is more than the minimum starting fuel amount, and engine torque down control is performed by driving an injector(S107,S108). The reliability is improved by restricting engine stall.
