PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gasket material discrimination device for a pipe joint which discriminates a material of a gasket without disassembling the pipe joint and improves the maintenance property of the pipe joint. SOLUTION: This gasket material discrimination device is provided with a body 11 having a tip part 11a for positioning applied to a predetermined position in the axial direction of the pipe joint 1, an arm 12 having a tip part 12a for discriminating gasket positioned in the vicinity of a gasket mounting position G of the pipe joint 1, a rotary shaft 13 connecting the arm 12 with the body 11 rotatably, and a magnet 14 provided in the tip part 12a for discriminating gasket of the arm 12 so as to face the gasket from an outer side of the pipe joint 1. If the gasket is made of a magnetic substance, the arm 12 rotates up to a predetermined position by a magnetic force acting between the magnet 14 and the gasket, and if the gasket is made of a non-magnetic substance, the arm 12 rotates up to a position deviated from the predetermined position.
