PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit for document reading in which a subordinate substrate mounting a main substrate never gets out of order such as disconnection owing to the breaking of a lead part as a light source unit which has an inverter circuit board for lamp illumination mounted on a light source part in respond to a demand for small-sized lightweight information equipment. SOLUTION: The light source unit for document reading, which reads a document by irradiating a document surface with light and receiving reflected light from the document surface, is characterized in that a light source and a light-source turning-on device are integrated and movable in a document read direction when the document is read and the light-source turning-on device has electronic components mounted on the main board an the subordinate board stood on the main board and also has the main board boned and fixed to a free end of a large-sized component on the subordinate board.
