PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a serial ink jet system imaging method in which the resolution can be altered at any time depending on an image being formed and the imaging speed can be enhanced. SOLUTION: In the inventive imaging method, image information is printed on a temporarily stopped imaging medium while moving a plurality of ink heads each comprising one or a plurality of arrays, of a plurality of ink nozzles arranged in the carrying direction of the imaging medium, arranged in the direction intersecting the carrying direction of the imaging medium for each hue in the direction intersecting the carrying direction. Mutual position of the ink heads is set in the direction intersecting the carrying direction of the imaging medium depending on the resolution of image information (S11, 19), ink ejection from the ink nozzle of the ink head is set depending on the resolution of image information (S13, 21), and the carrying speed of the imaging medium and the carrying distance at each stop are set depending on the resolution of image information (S14, 22). |
