In a seat and back-rest, which are vertically sprung for oscillation about pivots 54 and 88 by leaf springs 32, the back-rest is also sprung, by spring wires 84, so that the members oscillate horizontally, in response to violent accelerations in the fore and aft directions. The front of the seat pan 38 may be supported on leaf springs 40. The ends of springs 32 slide in contact with slippery plastics pads 62. The fore and after motion of spring wires 84, which support the back-rest, is limited by contact with channel walls 82, 83. On releasing a catch (100), the backrest may be folded forwardly. In another form, the leaf springs 40 are replaced by torsion springs (116, Figs. 4 and 5, not shown). |
