PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To confirm a position after the operation of a shift lever without having usage limitation even if a position detecting part of a shift lever operation completion checking means has a malfunction, in a mechanical automatic transmission for a vehicle. SOLUTION: In this mechanical automatic transmission for vehicle which has a speed change designating means for designating a speed change of the transmission, a speed change means for operating the shift lever based on the speed change designation of the speed change designating means and for performing speed change of the transmission, and the shift lever operation completion confirming means for confirming a completion condition of the operation of the shift lever, the shift lever operation completion confirming means includes a position confirming auxiliary means. The position confirming auxiliary means guides the shift lever to a target speed change position by the movement in a shifting direction, and judges if the shift lever can be operated in a selected direction at the target speed change position to confirm the completion of the shift lever operation.
