<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for developing a third-order nonlinear optical function with high optical nonlinearity, fast response and excellent durability and to provide a nonlinear optical element and a nonlinear optical device. SOLUTION: The third-order nonlinear optical function is developed by using the following nonlinear optical member under resonant conditions. The nonlinear optical member contains a nonlinear optical material of at least either a porphyrin derivative expressed by general formula (1) or a metal porphyrin derivative expressed by general formula (2). In the formulae, each of R<1> , R<2> , R<3> , R<4> represents H or an alkyl group, substituent derived from an alkyl group, phenyl group or substituent derived from a phenyl group, each of R<5> , R<6> , R<7> , R<8> , R<9> , R<10> , R<11> , R<12> represents H, an alkyl group or a substituent derived from an alkyl group, and M represents a metal atom.</p> |
