PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tail gate lift of a novel structure capable of suppressing a clearance between the floor plate and tail gate of a container by sufficiently moving the forward end part of the tail gate close to a floor plate rear end part of the container in a load handling operation while allowing the tail gate to be stored in upright state in a truck not allowing the tail gate to be sufficiently moved close to the rear end part for storage in upright state due to the presence of a projection at the rear of the container such as a biparting rear door. SOLUTION: A retaining stopper member 96 for setting a retaining upper end not arriving at the maximum upper end which is generally horizontally supported at the rear of the floor plate 152 of the container 24 is installed releasably by limiting the upper side rotating end of a main arm 46 so that the upper side rotating end of the main arm 46 can be selectively set at the maximum upper end and the retaining upper end. At the retaining upper end, the tail gate 16 is led to a closed position C so that the tail gate 16 can be held in upright state apart a specified amount from the rear face of the container 24 backwards.
