A sealing device for a multistage high pressure compressor (100), the multistage high pressure compressor (100) comprising: an electric motor (20) comprising a rotor (25) with a rotating shaft (23; 42) and a stator (22); and a compression mechanism section comprising a cylinder (71; 72; 73; 74) and a piston (51; 52; 53; 54), wherein the compression mechanism section compresses an intake working fluid through a plurality of compression stages (101; 102; 103;104) by reciprocateing the piston (51; 52; 53; 54) with respect to the cylinder (71; 72; 73; 74) by a rotation of the rotating shaft (23; 42) extending upwardly from the electric motor (20) so that a high pressure working fluid is generated; and a seal space (96) is provided at each of outer peripheries at both ends of the cylinder (71; 72; 73; 74) for receiving a seal ring (91) which is placed and compressed between the cylinder (71; 72; 73; 74) and a member surrounding thereof, whereby the cylinder (71; 72; 73; 74) is sealed.
