PURPOSE: A method of automatically downloading a voice message from a voice mail system is provided to store a voice message by a portable phone which automatically connects to the voice mail system, instead of a user connecting to the voice mail system by using the portable phone, thereby enabling the user to easily confirm the voice message. CONSTITUTION: A voice message is stored in a voice mail system of a network(S300). A server informs a portable phone that the voice message is stored in the voice mail system(S310). The portable phone requests a connection to the voice mail system, and connects with the server of the voice mail system(S320). The server transmits the stored voice message to the portable phone(S330). The portable phone stores the recorded voice message in a memory(S340). The portable phone decides whether to store the voice message or to leave the voice message in the memory by deleting the voice message stored in the voice mail system(S350). If the voice message is selected for storage by a user, the portable phone selects the storage of the voice message(S360), and delivers a corresponding number to the voice mail system, then the server stores the corresponding voice message(S370).
