PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a braking apparatus for a work transport apparatus for a press machine and a braking method thereof. SOLUTION: The braking apparatus 26 for a work transport apparatus for a press machine is provided with a work transport device 12 in which at least driving in one direction is performed with a linear motor, a power converting means 26a for converting relatively linear motion between a stator side component 13 and a table side component 17 in the linear motor driving section of the work transport apparatus into rotary motion, and a rotary motion braking means 26b for mechanically braking the rotary motion.
