PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating a small amount of foreign hydrogen halides from hydrogen chloride. SOLUTION: This method for separating a small amount of foreign hydrogen halides from hydrogen chloride gas comprises selectively absorbing at least one foreign halide in an absorption medium, preferably water or an aqueous hydrogen chloride solution. To minimize the mass flow of the foreign halide- loaded absorption medium which is discharged from the above process, the medium is preferably conveyed countercurrently to the gas in at least two coupled circuits.
