PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive energy absorption member for an automobile with lightweight, excellent productivity and high deformation energy at compressive deformation. SOLUTION: This energy absorption member has a double tube structure wherein an inner tube 1 made of a metal tube having a deformed shape whose cross section comprises convex and concave portions is inserted in an outer tube 2 made of a metal tube having a circular or polygonal cross section so that the inner surface of the outer tube contacts with the diametric maximum part of the inner tube 1.
