PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting temporary opening of a battery is provided to perform initialization of the engine control unit in a convenient manner by easily detecting temporary opening of the battery. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a regulator(11) for regulating the power supplied from a battery(B) and generating voltages for each unit of a motor vehicle; a micro computer(13) which operates by the voltage input from the regulator and the switching state of an ignition key(17), receives data from each sensor and controls each unit; a resistor(15) connected between output terminals of the battery, which passes power supplied from the battery and provides a battery open signal to the micro computer; and an SCR(19) connected between the output terminal of the resistor and the output pin of the micro computer, and switched by the set signal output from the micro computer when the ignition key is switched from turn-on to turn-off state, and switched to turn-off state for a predetermined time period when the battery is temporarily open and provided with power, to thereby output the voltage of the resistor in the battery open signal.
